Buying my house and the terror barrier

T he other day I was talking to a friend of mine.
Julian wanted to buy a house and called me for some advice.
Actually, being from the Canary Islands, he knows the market well and can tell the difference between what would be a good buy and what would not. However, knowledge is not all that is needed to take that big leap.
For many people, buying a house is a big decision. The vast majority of us have to take on a mortgage and a responsibility that can last up to 35 years. All this, together with the fear that is transmitted to us day and night from social networks, the media and friends in the neighbourhood (especially those who have never done anything relevant), makes this decision take longer than necessary.
In today's blog, I don't want to talk about how beautiful Gran Canaria is, or the legal steps you have to take to find your ideal home.
What I would like to do today, is to explain to you the psychological aspects that everyone goes through before taking such an important step.
Did you know that when we think about making a change, our subconscious goes into alert mode and fights incessantly to prevent it from happening?
Yes, you read me right. WHEN FACED WITH SITUATIONS OF CHANGE, YOUR MIND IS YOUR WORST ENEMY.
When we are relaxed it is easy to see everything from a neutral point of view. To see the positive and the negative of each of our decisions and thus be able to make better choices.
However, when we are stressed, everything changes. When we are under pressure we tend to focus on what could go wrong. We exaggerate everything and our reasoning ability is impaired.
On a scientific level, this happens because it activates the reptilian, which is the most primitive part of our brain and is designed to make us go into animal mode and fight, flee or freeze.
And how does all this extrapolate to buying or selling a house? Quite simply.
I have seen for more than 20 years how people who were clear about what they wanted (when they were relaxed), panic and look for absurd excuses just before signing (at the moment of greatest tension) and then, in time, regret not having taken the step they longed for. And that is precisely what I call the Barrier of Terror.
It's natural and it happens to all of us. The reason?
Our subconscious mind. This mind doesn't know if what you say is true or false. It doesn't know if it's good for you or if it's bad. In reality, the only thing it knows is that it has to do everything it can so that you don't change, don't grow, don't evolve. And it doesn't do it because it is bad, it does it to protect you. The purpose of the subconscious is that you don't suffer and that everything stays as it is. It is, particularly because of this, that most of us have an aberration to change.
Does this sound familiar?
I'm sure it does.
Just in case, I am going to give you some more basic examples of subconscious programming that make it difficult for you to change.
1. How much does it cost a sedentary person to do sport?2. How much does it cost an athlete to eat a bar of chocolate every night sitting on the sofa?3. How much does it cost an employee to become self-employed?4. How much does it cost us to get out of toxic relationships?
If you look around you, you will see a lot of attitudes that will surprise you. This happens because you can be neutral from your peace of mind. But the person who is experiencing it is not in the same place as you. The same happens when it is someone else who is watching you.So, if by any chance you, who are reading this, are also thinking of buying a house, I recommend that you decide what you want and how you want it before you find it. Write down on paper what you are looking for and at the price you are looking for it. And when you find it, try to ignore those defensive emotions and read the paper you've written down.
When you take the step, I guarantee that all the preventive emotions will disappear and in their place you will experience much more pleasurable emotions. You will feel victorious and you will be one step closer to achieving your goals.
At La Boutique, because we understand how complex everything can be, we have designed a series of protocols that will help you in every step of your purchase or sale to make your experience as pleasant as possible.
With love, Elena
